Yang Wang, MA Interpreting & Translation, from Xianyang

Why Bath?

I picked Bath, mainly based on the ranking and reputation of the University, but also because of the very good Interpreting and Translation course. The city itself is perfect for studying, too: its size, location and of course Bath is just beautiful!

My entire course had the opportunity to go to the United Nations in Vienna and did two weeks of work experience there.

Why did you choose your course?

I love interpreting and would like to work as an interpreter in the future. I studied English in my hometown of Xianyang, China, and wanted to continue that on Masters’ level abroad. The degree I am acquiring in Bath will certainly help my career.

How did you experience the British culture?

When I first came here I was very surprised by the amount of religion in public life. All these churches and manifestations of faith every struck me straight away. In general, I was impressed by the amount of culture expressed in architecture.

Did you do any work experience?

My entire course had the opportunity to go to the United Nations in Vienna and did two weeks of work experience there. On one hand it was fantastic to see how much we already know, but on the other hand it showed us how hard it is to actually do this job.

How is student life in Bath?

It is fantastic- the facilities are good and there are lots of societies to get involved with. I was part of the Dancing group for the first semester and it was wonderful. A truly great experience.
