WELCOME
The 8th Annual Biomechanics Symposium will be on the 17th September 2012. Keep checking our website: further details and a theme will be posted soon.
Thank
you to everyone who attended or presented at our 7th
annual Biomechanics Symposium on the 19th September last year.
We look forward to hosting you all again later in the year.
The Centre for
Orthopaedic Biomechanics is a partnership between the departments of Mechanical
Engineering at the University of Bath and Orthopaedic Surgery at the University
of Bristol. The Centre has strong collaborative links with the Princess
Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre at Exeter, the Institute of Orthopaedic and
Musculo-Skeletal Science at UCL, Stanmore, the Atrium Medical Centre in
Heerlen, The Netherlands and Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane,
Australia.
The Centre provides a resource for multidisciplinary research providing
a bridge between engineering and clinical orthopaedics. Engineering and
materials based research is carried out in laboratory based facilities
at the Bath site while clinically based research activities are hosted
at other associated institutions and hospital sites. In addition the Centre
offers a resource for preclinical validation of devices for the Orthopaedic
and Medical Device Industry.
The Centre is managed by a team representing the associated Institutions.
An Industrial Steering Committee, drawn from both large and small Orthopaedic
Companies provides an important input into guiding the research focus
of the Centre. In addition to supporting the research activities, the
Centre also makes a contribution to continuing education and training
by hosting specialist courses and workshops.
