The Standing Committee is responsible to Senate for all matters relating to the education and teaching of designated programmes taught in Partner Colleges and other organisations and the credit-bearing and other continuing education courses initiated within the Division for Lifelong Learning.

Partner Colleges and Institutions will be required to send a representative to meetings of the Standing Committee where results are being considered. If a representative is not present to answer queries, consideration of results may be deferred to a future meeting. Representatives may also be invited to attend other meetings of the Standing Committee as appropriate.
Terms of Reference
Approved by Senate 27th October 2004, revised 26th October 2005,
14th June 2006, 3rd July 2009, 9th June 2010 and 22nd February 2012.
The Standing Committee for Lifelong Learning shall in respect of
- designated programmes taught in the Colleges of Further Education and other organisations working in partnership with the University
- credit-bearing or other continuing education courses initiated within the Division for Lifelong Learning
assume responsibility relating to:
(a) preparation of proposals for the establishment and amendment
of programmes and partnerships for recommendation to Senate;
(b) the assignment and appointment of teachers and external examiners;
(c) student progress and assessment;
(d) academic standards and the quality of provision, including consideration of delegation of authority to appropriate subject-level fora to approve minor and intermediate changes to units on the recommendation of the Division Learning, Teaching and Quality Committee. The latter will be responsible to the Standing Committee for the academic standards and quality of programmes within the Division as set out in its terms of reference;
(e) establishment of new academic prizes and the approval of the
award of such prizes.
(f) consider any matters referred to the Committee by Senate;
(g) receive minutes/reports from its constituent committees and
groups for information and consideration where appropriate.
