Sport, Health & Exercise Science
Our group conducts research that advances knowledge of how physical activity, exercise and sport, are related to human health and performance.
Our goal is to conduct significant research from an understanding of fundamental mechanisms and processes through to application and translation.
Our research was ranked 6th out of 39 (Research Assessment Exercise 2008) in the UK with 35% of our research judged as 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent'. We currently have a research portfolio of around £4m.

Research on well-being focuses on lifestyle and occupational health. |

Investigates sport specific injuries, occupational physiology, nutrition and coach education. |
Obesity
Work relates to nutrition, environment, development and prevention. |
Chronic disease
Projects include work relating to CVD and diabetes. |

Research focuses on promotion of active and healthy ageing. |

Investigates motivation, interventions, environment and biological influences. |
