Facilities servicesThe Estates' Facilities Section is responsible for providing an efficient and effective portering and cleaning service. The section is made up of 17 Team Leaders with 76 full and part-time porter/cleaners who aim to work to a standard that fulfils reasonable expectations, given the level of resource available. The service offered includes specified general cleaning of all academic and administrative buildings, the removal and recycling of furniture, upkeep of the University's hard areas, disposal of general and non-hazardous office waste, the collection of recycling from designated areas, the disposal of confidential waste and the preparation of rooms in readiness for classes, conferences, meetings and examinations. Toilets are cleaned daily, or more in particularly busy areas, as are GTA rooms and Public areas. Staff are required to empty their own office waste into bins placed in central areas in departments, which are also empty daily. Offices are cleaned weekly. Fixtures and fittings, such as desks, tables, etc, will only be cleaned if clear of papers and in response to realistic requests. Annual cleaning of high areas will only be carried out up to 'arms reach' as per 'Working at Heights regulations' and if accessible. No computer or electronic equipment will be cleaned; neither will kitchen areas, although floors will be washed daily. Extra Cleaning Operations If a Department requires cleaning in addition to those tasks usually within the scope of the normal cleaning regime, they can request this via Agresso, as it would be rechargeable. Such cleaning would be carried out outside of core cleaning times. To see the Portering and Cleaning structure, please click here. |
