Your computer/mobile device

If you are bringing your own PC, Mac or mobile device to University you might want to take advantage of some of the services we offer. 

Connect your computer to the University network

If you are on Campus and have a University user account it is free to connect to the internet. All you need to do is follow the instructions on the Networking section of this website.

If you are not on campus, you can still connect to the network using a Virtual Private Network (VPN).

Virus Checking

You must use an anti-virus program at all times if you are connected to the University network. You can download Sophos Anti-virus free of charge.

You also need to make sure your computer has the latest updates installed to avoid being fined.

Below is a table with the device operating system in the left hand column and the service running across the top with links to the appropriate support page/forum post. Mobile devices are mainly supported through YouGuru, the Computing Services support forum. If your device is not listed in the table, ask YouGuru and a member of Computing Services will do their best to help you. Also let us know if the instructions below can't be applied to the particular version of the software your device is running.
